Style: G1986
Beads per lot:
150

1.6 cents
Bead material:
Glass
Country of origin:
Czech Republic
Size/shape:
About 4.7mm (long) x 4.7mm (wide) cylinders.
Colors/description:
Opaque dark reddish-brown.
Hole size:
2mm (estimated).
Defects: A small percentage of beads are broken, and a smaller percentage have debris filling the whole (I tried punching the debris out of the hole, and it worked, so you should be able to do it too).  Also, many beads have pits in the glass (I'm not sure of the percentage, perhaps 15%).  I should also say that the beads are not perfectly formed and vary slightly in size from one to the next.  In that respect, they are a little like large seed beads.  Most of them are about 4.6mm but some are as large as 5mm.  To compensate you for any imperfect beads you might get, I am putting 150 beads in each lot, instead of 125 (for the same money).
How photographed: At the window in natural daylight.
Comments: The color of these beads is so evenly divided between red and brown that I almost called them red beads.  They arrived in dusty, old-fashioned looking boxes, which makes me think they are a little old (10 to 20 years perhaps?).  However, even at the time they were made, they wouldn't have been considered high-quality beads.  Nonetheless, they are simple and basic and will look good in informal jewelry.  Having large holes, they can be used with stringing materials that are a little thick.  This shape could be called "pony" or "crow", but they just look like cylinders to me, so I am using that term.  The only disadvantage of the beads is that you'll have to examine them all for the ones with pits.

Caleb's notes: The price per kilo was fairly high, but I calculated that I got almost 10 mass, so the cost per bead was low.  However, they are loose, so each lot has to be counted, and then I have to examine them.  I should be sure to include a few extra in each lot.  I need to ask B just how old they are, as the invoice says "vintage" -- could he have had these since his father owned the business?  If so, I can't imagine why he would have held on to them.
