Cost per bead: |
2 cents |
Bead material: |
Glass |
Country of origin: |
Czech Republic |
Size/shape: |
2mm (thick) x 6mm (wide) rondelles (disk-shaped beads) with the hole through the center. |
Colors/description: |
Clear or opaque glass beads with a synthetic navy-blue coating. The coating is so dark, the beads almost look charcoal gray. |
Hole size: |
1mm (estimated). |
Defects: |
The picture revealed that some beads aren't perfectly formed, but the percentage of bad beads is probably not more than 5%. |
How photographed: |
Under two daylight-balanced lamps. Unfortunately, in this case the technique of using lamps leaves very prominent and visible reflections on the beads. If I have the time, I will take a photograph at the window, which may bring better results. |
Comments: |
When I first listed these beads, I listed them as navy blue because that's what they looked like to me. But as I stripped them off the strands, I noticed that the sides of the beads (not the edges, but the flat sides) look purple -- and then it hit me: The outer edges have faded to dark blue while the parts not exposed to light have remained purple. So I have added the word "purple" to the title. These are job-lot beads that are at least five years old, and it seems that some fading has taken place (as often happens with pearls). This is the first time I have seen pearls in the rondelle shape. Now that I have bought a better camera, I am including an extreme close-up picture when posting new beads. In fact, from now on I'll be including extreme close-up pictures with all the new beads. However, those close-up pictures are not in any kind of uniform scale with the close-up pictures of other beads. |
