Country of origin: |
Czech Republic |
Size/shape: |
4mm round (spherical). |
Colors/description: |
Glass beads, probably white, with a synthetic lime green coating. By synthetic I mean polymer-based. |
Hole size: |
1mm (estimated). |
Defects: |
The coating on Czech coated beads is fairly thin, and I don't know how durable it will be (although I expect that it should last for years, but perhaps not for decades). Synthetic coatings can be pulled off, so you should not pull on it around the holes. A few beads may have some anomalies in the coating, such as bumps, indentations, bubbles or a bit of dirt. Inevitably, a few beads will be missing a bit of coating around one of the holes (a common defect). Some beads may have "tags" of excess coating around the holes; the tags can be clipped off with small scissors or, better yet, cuticle nippers. |
How photographed: |
At the window in natural daylight. |
Comments: |
I like this gentle green. Although I'm not fond of synthetic coatings in general, sometimes they look better than glass. Important: As I have worked with the beads, I've realized that they are paler (i.e., lighter) than the picture makes them appear. When fixing up a picture, it is always a difficult balance between making the beads look too bright or too dark.
