I've carried these beads without the matte finish, and I think the matte finish adds an interesting dimension. The term "givre" was introduced into the bead world by Swarovski, and it apparently means "frost" in French. Swarovski didn't use it to mean a matte finish; rather, they used it to refer to a cloud of white glass inside of clear glass. But it has come to mean any cloud of color inside of clear glass or another color. At least, that's the way I use it.
