5mm (thick) x 8mm (wide) faceted rondelles. Some beads are 6mm x 8mm, and some may be a little wider than 8mm. |
Colors/description: |
A mix colors, mostly clear although some are gray or light topaz, or light brown or opalescent. Most have a dark iris coating on part of the bead, although some have a multicolored metallic coating over most of the bead. (Please see Comments below.) |
Hole size: |
1mm (estimated). |
Defects: |
Most beads are in good shape, with well-defined facets with sharp edges (similar to Preciosa and Swarovski beads). However, perhaps 5% of the beads have rough edges between some of the facets, or have defects on the facets themselves. Perhaps another 5% to 10% of the beads are 95% perfect but have one small chip here or there. Some beads have chips around the hole where you won't see them when strung, but those chips can fray against the string or wire. Some beads have holes that are slighly off-center (the holes in these beads appear to be drilled instead of being part of the mold.) Overall, the beads appear more perfect than most Czech faceted beads do. The price is low at $3.00 for 50, so you are getting a good deal. |
How photographed: |
Under two daylight-balanced lamps. About half of the beads (my estimate) have iridescent AB coatings on them, but the coatings didn't show up well in the picture. |
Comments: |
I have started buying Chinese crystal beads in small quantities and putting them together in mixes. This is the mix of cool and muted colors; I also have a mix of cool but brighter colors and a mix of warm colors. Chinese crystal beads have more perfect facets than Czech beads have; but because the edges of the facets are so clean and sharp, they chip more easily. Important: I started this mix with more colors than it currently contains, and then I decided that I threw in too many colors. So I removed the violet beads and the beads that were all metallic dark blue. I also removed the beads that were all clear, and the beads that were plum purple, and most of the light-topaz and light-brown beads. (Those will be sold separately.) |
