This is one of those instances in which the actual beads look better than the picture (usually it's the other way around). The bronze coating is more solid and uniform than the picture indicates, and the green glass is a deeper, richer color. Also, the beads in the picture look somewhat dusty, and many of the imperfect facets can be seen. I suspect that you'll like the actual beads more than you like the picture. Regarding the color, I had a great deal of trouble getting it right. First of all, the term "zircon" can be anything from a deep aqua to a deep emerald. In this case, the beads are closer to emerald -- but there is a touch of blue in them. In other words, they are closer to the blue end of the green spectrum than the yellow end (the yellow end of the green spectrum would include olive green and peridot, etc.). Digital cameras have worse color rendition than the old film cameras had, and these beads provide a good example of that. Right out of the camera, the glass looked too aqua. So I shifted the color in my photo-editing program until the glass had (almost) the right hue; but that made the bronze coating look like copper. So I opened the "hue map" tool, which allowed me to shift the colors individually, and finally I got the bronze to look like bronze again. As I write this, I am in the market to buy a better camera, but even a newer, better camera won't have perfect color reproduction. |
