These beads are at least 30 years old and might be much older. That isn't old enough to make them vintage in my opinion, and it doesn't mean that they are better made than modern beads. These beads are from my stash from the 1980's when I was making jewelry myself. The amethyst color is very dark; the color is not rich at all. Traditionally, Czech purple beads have never been bright. Except for beads which have a polymer-based coating, Czech purple beads are almost always grayish or dark. My theory is that the metals required to make bright purple beads are very expensive, but that's only a theory. Swarovski makes some bright purple beads, so I know it's possible. (For those who don't know, glass is colored by adding various metals to it.) |
